  2. Iggy Rodrigues is an Activist that has been awarded the 13 artists award by the state that he rebels! And take note that he didn't even have a solo show before the said award, where in body of works is an essential criteria for the said award.

  5. one word- "PALAKASAN"
no body of works, no credibility, no shame!!!
You have corrupted the 13 artists award. PWE!!!

  9. To: Max

There were more young artists who deserve the award than that activist that doesn't even have a One Man Show, the likes of Rodel Tapaya, Marina Cruz, Norman Dreo to name a few. Clearly you people don't know what you are doing by putting that Raya Martin which is a film maker, that even he himself is oblivious of the award. There's no need to research or possibly investigate to the crime they did or you people did.

PS. Kasingbaho ng umaalingasaw na National Artist Award ang lower version nyang 13 Artists Award.

  10. to napag-uusapan : napag-uusapan ka nga ba?
anyway, sari dalena, a FILM MAKER, was a thirteen artist awardee also last 2000 something.

maybe next time, ccp should maximize the awards that can be given and rename it instead as the 1,000,000 artist awards so everyone will be happy, and everyone can make their own trophies.

trophy lang ba habol kamo, di magpagawa sa recto or sa Jetts trophy, ay sus!

  11. award giving bodies should always be above board or else these awards are meaningless pag ganyan ng ganyan... jakol na lang tayo lahat. hehehehe!

  12. he he he, gelo di na ikaw ang may comment ng mga di nagpapakikilala. bakit natatakot tayo lagi na maglabas ng komento referring to napag uusapan. sabi ko kay max, pinatulan mo yun ang babaw ng argument. hindi hinihingi ang award ibinibigay. kung ayaw nila what the hell na ibigay nila. in fairness to karen (i have bad relation to karen) siguro ang role lang nya is to choose the judges. but not to whom the award is to be given. parang wala namang relation yung mga judges to tutok. i mean all of them. i nominated iggy for thirteen artist award (twice) because i believe in him and i know his body of works. and this is not the first time i nominated him. dahil ba nakabase sa one man show sa isang commercial gallery ang body of works? i know a lot of people who can do more than iggy like max santiago who commented earlier, man ang galing nyan. or like emil mercado na paduduguin nag utak mo sa pag conceptualize pa lang, or arlie nava patay na sya pero sa paglalatag pa lang nag concept malalag na brief mo. away bati kami nang mga yan because of debates and arguments na dudugo mga ilong natin sa kakaresolve ng mga existential/strategical querry, pero speaking of body of works iggy got it. di lang ako ang nag nominate sa kanya. but kung ang pamantayan natin ay ang commercial space as a platform, to hell with it. (most people that i mentioned are not known to gallery spaces but they just want to express themselves) people we are still talking of this things!! wow gelo we must have something more to argue.

people of the philippines, maging matapang tayo sa arguments. ito din ang mag build nag mga sarili natin. magpakilala kayo. we must learn how to push our things.

  13. to mideo : "bad relation to karen" - uy anong ginawa nyo, puro tutok lang kasi walang putukan, ha ha ha!

anal-o(r)gy of awards : Metro Manila film Fest, enough said!

awards, means of branding which is an arm of marketing. what is good is all relative, you are related to someone in the jury you get the awards. e.g. national artist awards.

if one does great things, he/she doesnt need such affirmation, especially from an institution. the hell, he/she would even refuse it.

a true radical lives and dies in his own terms.

  14. your words does not only apply for radicals. why segregate?

in your manner of articulation the artist himself is a merchandise. we are in late capital anyway. art as people here are discussing is a commodity. you should see things done outside the commercial platform.

    ----

its easy to say that everything is nonsense specially if we have no knowledge how the award was conceived. please do some more research. your words simply creating intrigues. myopic observation does not really helps the community. i think iggy does not need an affirmation but rather a wider platform and the award helps him for that anyway.

  15. but in speaking of late capitalism, so-called "aura" can also be commodified. art, with all its attendant/supposed transcendent role for society has its symbols sold or marketed as products, including personalities, icons and ideologies included, not simply read as a simplistic economic exchange but a social transaction which is symbolically represented by e.g. awards, intstituions, etc. including ideas of radicalism.

this is also not to say that the award doesnt merit now or its historical importance is being discarded for the politics surrounding it.

that's probably the main reason why its relevance or credibility now is continually being contested .

segregation is necessary and is the order of things. integration is false fraternal harmony. discord is but the symptom of a unison discontent for the order. we are still lucky we are not in a totalitarian state, bad thing is everything is in a state of mediocrity, even seeming "radical" actions.

but so what is or who is a true radical then?
